Eminem’s powerful collaboration with Rihanna is his fourth track to hit the milestone of 800 million Spotify plays.

Skylar Grey wrote the hook as a dedication to her abusive relationship with the music industry, but having been enriched with both Rihanna’s and Eminem’s narratives, it became a multilayered message that captivates the audience across all genres. “Love The Way You Lie” has brought to the forefront the topic that was not discussed much back in 2010.

Rihanna commented on the song for MTV:

This song… it gave a voice to not only victims but also… what I really enjoy about this song is not only how cleverly written it is. Unbelievably, I can’t believe he wrote this song like that. But the fact that he confronts himself on this record was the biggest thing for me, and I think that’s what people connected to the most.

People’s connection is measured by the commercial success of this record. “Love The Way You Lie” is the best-selling Marshall’s single, it is certified 14× Platinum in Australia and 12× Platinum in the US. The video for the song has gained over 2.2 billion views on Eminem’s official YouTube channel.
