Even with no new music on the charts, “Lose Yourself” continues to power Em’s presence in the US, thanks to steady digital sales.
This week, the iconic anthem has re-entered two Billboard charts: Rap Digital Song Sales and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, landing at No. 8 and No. 14, respectively.
It is not unusual for legacy hits to pop back onto the rankings from time to time, but what is impressive is just how consistently this one performs. “Lose Yourself” is now approaching 500 weeks on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. If it sticks around for just a few more frames, it will hit that milestone — a rare feat for any song, especially one released in 2002.
Originally recorded for the 8 Mile soundtrack, “Lose Yourself” was a massive success from the jump. It ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks straight, earned Eminem an Oscar and two Grammys, and became a staple of motivational playlists everywhere. It remains his most downloaded track to date.
And yet, despite all those weeks on the genre sales charts, it has never reached No. 1 on either. The song has topped plenty of charts globally and peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but on these two Billboard tallies, it has come close without ever quite taking the crown. It is just another reminder that chart peaks do not always reflect cultural weight. Time has a way of showing what really lasts, and it looks like “Lose Yourself” does not have an expiration date on it.
