Logic has released his ninth studio album, “Ultra 85”. It seems like it breaks his own record for referencing Eminem on one project.
The album, years in the making, is a sci-fi concept album initially announced in 2017 before Logic briefly retired from rap.
One of the striking aspects of the album is Logic’s continued admiration for Eminem. In three tracks, he pays homage to the Detroit legend.
The first one on the track list and the first one to see the light of the day is “Deja Vu”, previously released as an album single. Logic brags about his joint with Eminem and implies that he’s good enough to match Eminem’s lyrical prowess. Also, in this song, Logic mentions the Top 4 rappers who influenced his style, starting with Marshall:
Who you know go toe-to-toe with Em?
“Homicide” might have to go again
Student of the game, I studied him
JAY-Z, Nasir, and Rakim
In “Ghost in the Machine”, he references Jay-Z and Eminem’s classic “Renegade”, positioning himself alongside rap royalty.
No, the game could never ban me
I’m a renegade like Em and Jay
And finally, in “Teleport”, Logic flexes his CV, mentioning his work with Wu-Tang Clan and Eminem:
Made some friends, and I made some M’s, and I copped that Benz
Got a song with Wu, got a song with Em
Feel like this high won’t never end
It’s clear that Eminem remains a significant influence on Logic’s career, and the young rapper does not shy away from this fact, paying homage to the greatest who paved the way for new generations of hip hop artists.
