New Lil Wayne’s record was highly anticipated by everybody and it did not disappoint. Even before release fans had fun pointing out a connection between it and recent Eminem’s album “Music To Be Murdered By” – “Funeral” seemed to be an extremely fitting sequel to Marshall’s shot. However, there is more to say.
Lil Wayne implanted Em’s references into his record at least twice. On “Piano Trap” he mentions Eminem as someone who can vouch for his success and as someone who knows how success tastes likes:
I’m workin’ my plans, ingenuous
I’m talkin’ ’bout mags and millions
Mags and millions, man, ask Eminem
On “Mahogany” he uses a reference to “8 mile”, the film loosely based on Em’s story where he also starred. Considering that it is a story about rappers who are poor and do not have commercial success or big fame, Lil Wayne uses this comparison as an offence to his counterpart while describing his own rich lifestyle:
But you shady like 8 Mile
Always a pleasure to see how big rappers interact with each other through their music.
