Eminem’s surprise set at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday keeps delivering new details. The private concert for Rocket Mortgage employees now comes with fresh insight from DJ WhooKid, who revealed he brought Em out during his set.

DJ WhooKid, a longtime Shade 45 DJ and close Shady affiliate, shared photos from backstage with the caption:

“Brought out Eminem on my set today in Detroit 🚀🚀 Legendary 🔥🔥🔥”

Buffs, Tees, and Subtle Tributes

Marshall was spotted rocking a pair of Buffs, those same Cartier glasses gifted by Royce 5’9 for his birthday. He’s been wearing them to Lions games lately, and they’ve become part of his current Detroit look.

Also in place was his signature type of a T-shirt: a print of Marley Marl’s In Control, Volume 1 album cover. That 1988 record is considered one of the foundational works in hip hop production history.

A Nod to Hip Hop’s Roots

Obviously, this wasn’t a random pick from a dresser. Eminem has made it a habit to use his wardrobe as a form of hip hop education. For years now, he has been regularly wearing shirts that spotlight classic records. It’s a subtle but intentional way to get young fans to dig deeper into the genre’s roots.

Chances are, a few Rocket Mortgage employees left the show and pulled up Marley Marl’s album, maybe even for the first time.

Shady Uniform

WhooKid, for his part, looked equally sharp. He wore his iced-out Shady Records chain, recently gifted by Eminem himself, and a hoodie printed with the Ferris hockey mask design from Em’s merch capsule.

Together, the duo gave Rocket employees a show that blended nostalgia, style, and history. Even if it was off the radar for most fans, this performance had love for the culture in heart.

Let’s hope the next show Marshall headlines comes with a full crowd and a public ticket link.
