Eminem and Jay-Z

KXNG Crooked initiated a conversation about favourite bars, and the Detroit hip hop doctor Lazarus has a perfect answer.

First of all, it is Crook’s masterful touch that averted a discussion from crashing into a wall by changing “Top 5” suggested by a fan to “Favourite 5”. A slight change, but it reminded all that these lists demonstrate first of all somebody’s personal taste and inclinations. So while they provide an interesting perspective and always draw attention, none can really certify Top 5 industry best.

However, it is always intriguing to learn what rappers like and appreciate, what ticks their boxes when comparing songs or, as it happens, verses.

So when Lazarus, who stands as of the most lyrically skilful and intelligent Detroit rappers, gives his list – it is worth considering. Lazarus did not disappoint. His personal favourites are:

Inspectah Deck on Wu-Tang Clan’s “Triumph”
GZA on “Duel of the Iron Mic”
Nas on Raekwon’s “Verbal Intercourse”
Eminem on Jay-Z’s “Renegade”
Chino XL on “Nunca”
