A stressful SNL week becomes even stranger
Winslet recalled hosting Saturday Night Live during that intense press period. She arrived ready to work, but the writers delayed giving her the monologue until the last possible moment. But they added two more tasks: she had to sing and tap dance live.
However, the real curveball came backstage.
Eminem was the musical guest that week, and according to Winslet, he walked up to her with a question that still makes her shake her head.
“This is the story I never, never told. Eminem asked me to shave his bottom. He said, ‘Would you shave my butt?’ I said, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t do personal grooming. I’m not gonna go with a Bic and get your crack, love.’ Never told that story before ever in my life in public”.
The studio audience erupted. Graham Norton barely recovered. Even Winslet seemed amused at how absurd the moment still feels decades later.
