Macklemore’s recent comment about Eminem’s guest status in hip hop didn’t sit well with the Black comedian and he explained why it’s wrong and what the difference is between Marshall and white rappers like Macklemore.
Besides the same conversation about Em’s position in the house of hip hop, Josh Pray was also irked by Macklemore’s attempt to put himself on the same level as Em and his expectation of getting the same treatment as Shady because they are the same race. The difference is drastic, states the comedian in the video he posted on his social media.
Josh Pray used cultural references and rapped “Patiently Waiting” and “My Name Is” to show how different the two rappers are and how deep Marshall’s impact on hip hop is. As always, his rant was emotionally charged:
No disrespect to what Macklemore has accomplished as an artist because he sold records and numbers don’t lie. But Macklemore, I don’t ever want you to say you and Eminem as a duo in anything. Eminem is here. Eminem once said, “Don’t let me lose you, / I’m not tryna confuse you / When I let loose with this Uzi / and just shoot through your Isuzu”. You ain’t said nothing like that. Eminem ain’t no damn guest! Every Black family got one white person, one white friend that we call white boy. Why – I don’t know. But we like, “I don’t wanna see white boy, white boy crazy, white boy knock your ass out. Hey, he can rap! Go get white boy!” Eminem is him. Macklemore?.. I’ve never been around anybody that said, “Hey, throw that Macklemore on!” or “Hey, we finna have a hip hop party. Make sure Macklemore’s getting an invitation”. Again, this ain’t no shot at you.
There are just different genres of rap, and, Macklemore, you’re on that genre like if Aunt Sharon wanted to rap. When Justin Bieber got in the booth and started rapping. When the dude with those crazy sideburns and all the gold teeth in his mouth from the MTV show, when he was rapping. That’s Macklemore. Eminem, Bubba Sparxx — they are not guests in hip hop, they are hip hop, they belong over here. They ride with us. We mess with Em the wrong way. Joe Budden hates him, but we don’t. Eminem ain’t invited, he’s no guest, no damn way. Eminem has his own apartment in the project! He’s right in the hood. Eminem can go in any hood, any project and do it. Macklemore… Macklermore, Eminem is the type of dude that shops at the candy lady house, he doesn’t even go to Walmart. You go to Walmart. Eminem eats pig feet off the ice cream truck. You go and eat pig feet from a restaurant. Eminem definitely gonna take his shoes off and play sidewalk with the hood kids. You’re gonna play kickball inside a fence. Macklemore, this is totally different. Y’all gonna stop disrespecting Eminem.
“Some cowards fucked with the wrong building, they meant to hit ours / Better evacuate all children, it’s nuclear showers / There’s nothin’ spookier, you’re now about to witness…” Eminem got me saying so many words. “Hi, kids, do you like violence? / Wanna see me stick nine-inch nails through each one of my eyelids?”
