The hip hop world has been mourning the loss of legendary hero DJ Kay Slay for a while now. Eminem stepped in with a personal message and a special memorial programme on his radio station.

Keith Grayson, aka DJ Kay Slay, passed away after a four-month battle with COVID-19 on April 17th, 2022, at the age of 55. There was no artist in hip hop who did not grieve for the giant of a man that DJ Kay Slay was.

Marshall, who has not been using his social media accounts for personal statements for a long time, took to Twitter to announce a special programme that Shade45 prepared to honour and commemorate Kay Slay’s legacy.

And for the programme, Em recorded a message:

Yo, this is Eminem. Just wanted to say rest in peace to one of our family members here on Shade45, Kay Slay, the Drama King, who’s been with us since the beginning. It was an honour to know you, bro. On behalf of everybody here at the station just wanna say it to the legend: Drama King, we love you, bro. We’re gonna miss you. Rest in peace, my friend.

Back in 2003, Eminem recorded and produced a freestyle for Kay Slay’s mixtape “The Streetsweeper Vol. 1”. Even from a couple of lines you can understand that their relationship was special:

Page me, you need a beat. You Canibus?
Then it’s Dre’s fee. If you Kay Slay, the fees waived.
