Slim Shady returns to Bellahouston Park next month.
Next month sees Marshall Bruce Mathers III – better known as Eminem – return to Glasgow for the first time in four years.
The hip-hop superstar will headline the Summer Sessions at Bellahouston Park, the same venue he rocked in 2013.
It may be a few weeks away, but we’re already excited for the return of the Real Slim Shady – here’s why.
We might get some new songs
Em hasn’t released a new album since 2013’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’, the sequel to his breakthrough sophomore album (if we don’t count ‘Infinite’, his debut LP which isn’t on general release).
His last Glasgow gig preceded the release of MMLP2, so the fact the rapper is back on the circuit is a good indication that a new album is coming.
Eminem confirmed in October that he’s working on a new album, while Doctor Dre has reportedly been working on a track.
Could we hear some of the new songs for the first time in Glasgow?
We didn’t get any of the MMLP2 songs last time, but even after the album’s release he only dropped two or three into his setlist. So, fingers crossed.
Eminem in Scotland is always insane
Eminem doesn’t come to Scotland all that often, but when he does it’s always insane.
His first visit was to the Barrowlands in 1999, before the Gig on the Green in 2001 saw protests launched at the Detroit rapper and Marilyn Manson due to the “anti-Christian” messages in their songs and their rude lyrics.
Fans were so keen to see the show that the gig had to be delayed by 30 minutes to avoid crushing, but Mr Mathers was praised for his electric performance.
A Hampden Park gig followed in 2003, but a Murrayfield date was axed after Em cancelled the European leg of his Anger Management Tour.
It took until 2010 for the superstar to return to Scotland, as he headlined T in the Park.
After a 40-minute delay – greeted by one Balado reveller with the immortal shout “will the Real Slim Shady please turn up?” – and some confusion over where he was – we’re not sure Edin-burg is a real place – the rapper left the 80,000 crowd in raptures.
The last gig at Bellahouston was well-received by fans and critics alike, so we’re sure Marshall will smash it out of the park.
Who knows when he’ll be back?
Ahead of their co-headline Home & Home Tour, Jay-Z told David Letterman that Eminem was “a notorious non-tourer”.
He wasn’t kidding: Slim Shady hasn’t played live since March last year, and he’s only done two shows since November 2014.
His previous three tours – including the aforementioned ‘Home & Home’ tour with Jay-Z have taken in a grand total of 37 shows.
All this is to say, if you want to see ‘Stan’, ‘Lose Yourself’ and ‘Without Me’ live, this may be your last chance for a while…
The afterparty
The gig may be on a Thursday, but you don’t have to go home When the Music Stops.
The Garage is hosting an Eminem afterparty, playing the hits all night long in their Desperados Bar.
It runs from 11pm to 3am, and you’ll get in free with your ticket stub – meaning you can Mosh all night long!
