When the topic of Eminem came up in a recent interview, Flavor Flav made his stance clear — nobody does it better.
Hip hop legend Flavor Flav sat down with Outta Pocket hosts RG3 and Grete Griffin to talk about sports, reality TV, and, of course, rap. When the conversation turned to Eminem, Flav did not hold back in his praise. Shutting down any arguments about Em’s place in the culture, he declared:
Eminem right now, to this day, is the best rapper alive.
Flav pointed out that Em’s battle track record speaks for itself — every time someone has challenged him, they’ve lost:
Nobody could beat out Eminem. There have been people who tried to battle Eminem. But in every battle Eminem got into, Eminem took them out. When you keep winning, that means you’re the best.
He also emphasised why Eminem was embraced by hip hop, drawing a sharp contrast between Em and other white rappers from the past:
Eminem was the hood, the streets. [Vanilla] Ice didn’t come from that world, he came from another world. Eminem came from the streets, straight from the gutter. That’s why he was definitely accepted. Because he knew what the fuck he was talking about.
The conversation then touched on critics who take issue with calling Eminem the greatest, arguing that hip hop is a Black culture. But Flavor Flav wasn’t having it:
All of this is based on feelings, and these are my true feelings. When nobody can beat you — you’re the champ. You’re the best, you’re the greatest, like Muhammad Ali was. Wasn’t nobody beating him and he was the greatest — same thing with Eminem. I haven’t seen anybody beat him out yet. It ain’t about colour. It’s about who you are inside and how you carry yourself. Eminem — yes, he’s a representative.
For Flav, it is simple — Eminem’s skill, his roots, and his deep respect for the culture make him the best in the game.
