Ez Mil Tells Fans: “Let the Countdown Begin”

The youngest Shady Records artist shares footage from the studio that shows him hard at work. Is it time to get excited about his new album?

Mixed signals

Just last week, we noted how cryptic and evasive Ez Mil was in recent interviews about his music. Asked about his next album, he said nothing but “Don’t hurt yourself. There you go”.

After waiting nearly three years for his label debut, fans are craving, if not certainty, then at least hope.

Now, fans finally have something to hold on to, as the Filipino-American artist dropped two short videos from the studio.

New messaging

The first clip is a fast-paced montage from the studio featuring Ez Mil playing a guitar, locked into the session behind the mixing desk, and talking excitedly about the process. The video is captioned with “Let the countdown begin”. However cryptic this message still is, this time it gives fans more reason to believe that this “countdown” implies the new album is approaching.

The second video is a snippet of what seems to be a broader conversation where Ez Mil explains how he learned to mix music, spending hours in a computer shop. He paid for computer time and used a corner of the shop as his studio, with the guitar and pedals brought from home. The clip looks like part of a longer documentary-style interview, a larger behind-the-scenes project.

A long road to the debut

Ez Mil signed his contract with Eminem’s Shady Records and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath in July 2023 and released a compilation of earlier material, expanded with “Realest” feat. Eminem, a month later. Since then, the fanbase has been waiting for the full-length solo project expected to build on that momentum to introduce Ez Mil to a wider audience and showcase his talent as a rapper, singer, writer, musician, and producer. Instead, the months passed with little new music, except for another collaboration with Eminem and occasional freestyles that Ez Mil would post on his media channels.

If we read the signs correctly, finally, he might be ready to drop new music and show the world what two rap legends saw in him.
