This is Eminem’s first visit to South Africa and the African continent.
According to a statement by Showtime Management, the Rapture 2014 tour is a game-changing hip-hop event curated by Eminem, with ears tuned to the streets, and eyes locked on rap’s future. Eminem has handpicked the now, and the next, for the debut dose of Rapture.
Eminem, in a headline spot hot off the release of The Marshall Mathers LP 2, released on November 5, has sold well over 750 000 units and is billed as one of the hottest albums of the year.
The Guardian said of his recent shows in Britain: “His stage presence is as potent as ever.”
A 13-time Grammy and Oscar winner, Eminem has sold 80 million albums, scanned 120 million singles and had 2.5 billion views online.
In South Africa, Eminem remains one of the most successful chart acts of all time. Of his eight albums released here, seven of them went to No. 1. He has hit the top of the Top 100 airplay Singles Chart 6 times, including Without Me and Lose Yourself, and most recently with his 2010 Rihanna collaboration Love The Way You Lie, which was the second biggest selling single that year.
His new single with Rihanna, Monster, is this week’s highest debut on the South African RAMS chart; and the new album debuted at No. 1 on iTunes chart and No. 9 on the physical albums sales chart.
RISA has certified The Slim Shady LP (1999) gold, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) two-times platinum, The Eminem Show (2002) almost three-times platinum, Encore (2004) approaching two-times platinum, Curtain Call (2005) platinum , Re-Up (2006) gold, Relapse (2009) gold and Recovery (2010) platinum.
