The Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy will celebrate the artistic achievements and innovations of Dr. Dre.
Colleagues will pay tribute to Dre as one of the music industry’s most ground-breaking producers of all time at a special event that will also kick off the new Grammy season. It will take place on January 22, 2020 in the legendary Village studios in Los Angeles, the birthplace of classic records including “Aja” by Steely Dan, “Joe’s Garage” by Frank Zappa, “Planet Waves” by Bob Dylan and many more.
President/CEO of the Recording Academy Deborah Dugan explained the choice by the impact that the revolutionary producer and GRAMMY-winning rapper made during his career:
Dr. Dre is an influential force in music. Dre breaks boundaries and inspires music creators across every genre. His evolution as a producer solidifies him as a leader of the pack within our industry, and we watch in amazement as he continues to shape the future of music.
He has certainly shaped the music scene by working with legends like Eazy-E, N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and many more, and even changed it by catapulting Eminem there with iconic “My Name is”.
