As Terence Crawford gears up for the biggest fight of his career, he reflects on what Eminem’s support meant to him in past walkouts.
The superfight is on: Terence “Bud” Crawford will face off with Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Crawford, already a four-division champion with a perfect record of 41-0 (31 KOs), is stepping up two weight classes for what could be the defining bout of his career.
Recently, Crawford talked up about the fight and the recognition he had earned on the way there — including from Eminem. Marshall walked him out to “Lose Yourself” back in 2023 when Crawford defeated Errol Spence Jr. in a commanding performance. That moment, says Crawford, meant more than fans might realise.
“It was like throwing a rock into a haystack, and he replied”, Detroit’s Local 4 quotes Crawford. “I told him to pull up, and he was like, ‘I’m there. You’re one of my favourite fighters’. That showed a lot of support for me, and that showed what level I’m at in the boxing world”.
That walkout quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night, and Bud’s stock only rose from there. He followed it up with a win over Israil Madrimov in August 2024 to become champion in a fourth division—cementing his place among the greats. This time, Eminem threw his support behind Bud again, flying over to LA and even performing ahead of the fight.
With the Canelo fight now official, Crawford says he is ready: “I feel great, and I’m feeling blessed… In September, I’m going to show the world what greatness looks like”. Whether or not Eminem joins him for the next walkout remains to be seen, but the respect between the two is clearly mutual.
