As rap movies continue to leave their mark on pop culture, Complex recently ranked some of the most iconic films in the genre, including “8 Mile”, “All Eyez On Me”, and “Notorious”.

The piece was probably written to promote Pharrell’s new film “Piece By Piece”, which hits theatres on October 11, but who wouldn’t take a look at the ranking such as this? So, we did. Unsurprisingly, “8 Mile” landed high on the list—at No. 2, to be exact.

Even the article’s author, who admits they are not a huge fan of Eminem’s music, gave “8 Mile” its due credit:

“As someone with next to no love for Eminem’s music, it pains me to say that this film does everything right. 8 Mile is a week in the life of Eminem’s fictional counterpart, Jimmy, that depicts poverty as the vicious cycle it is while being an endearing tale of someone trying to make art as they trudge through the messiness of everyday life. The film has the most to say out of any other biopic on this list. Good stuff.”

50 Cent’s “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’” also made the list at No. 5.

Here’s how the full ranking of movies shook out:

1. Wild Style (1983)
2. 8 Mile (2002)
3. Piece By Piece (2024)
4. Straight Outta Compton (2015)
5. Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ (2005)
6. Roxanne Roxanne (2018)
7. All Eyez On Me (2017)
8. Notorious (2009)

Even if “8 Mile” is not at the top of the list, it is clear the film continues to make an impact — and maybe even convert a few sceptics along the way.
