The latest episode of The Joe Budden podcast was released on Saturday and at least half an hour of their time Joe discussed with his co-hosts Eminem’s album, Eminem’s disses and how Joe feels about his departure from Shady Records. This reaction is a far cry from how he responded to “Kamikaze”.
Recently Joe, who became a vocal critic of all things Shady after leaving Slaughterhouse, changed his tune and more and more often talked about Eminem as a skilful rapper and an important figure in the hip-hop world. This new album helped to solidify his opinion:
Even if you are not strong Eminem fan, people are gonna replay this album. This is probably the best we have heard from him in a while, this is the best album we’ve heard from him in a while.
Commenting on Mal’s remark that there is “too much rapping” on this record, Joe noticed that
It’s a lazy take on any Eminem topic that there is too much rapping, too many words. Cause if you expect something else from Eminem it’s on you.
Of course, Joe paid special attention to “I Will” feat Featuring Joell Ortiz, Royce da 5’9’’ and KXNG Crooked. Three-quarters of Slaughterhouse, basically the whole crew excluding Joe, joined Em on that track. Apparently, some Twitter users decided that Em’s line
Yeah, your group was off the chain, but you were the weakest link
was aimed at Joe. So Joe had some explaining to do:
That was not. It’s about Lord Jamar obviously, if you listen to eight bars coming before that. It’s hard for me to say that Em should stop dissing Lord Jamar but that’s how I feel. I understand that Lord Jamar disses Eminem every single chance he gets. And I understand that maybe some personal shit is going on, for Lord Jamar anyway. But I don’t feel like Em has to acknowledge that often. […] But there were some Joe disses. “Trader Joe”, traitor Joe… That’s hurtful! […] The same way I feel he should stop dissing Lord Jamar, he should stop dissing me! Whatever we had, that exchange when you did these videos, the Trapped in the closet interview video and I said whatever I said on a pod, that was a moment in time, we had our exchange and it’s over. In 2020 I cannot harbour negativity towards not only one of the best rappers but somebody I’m not angry at! […] I don’t have problems with anybody! Joe is not a traitor. The word “traitor” is just a little misleading. I have no beef with Em, I have no problem with Em, I only had but so many conversations with Em. I have been very consistent in my message that only problem or issue that I had was with how our business was set up. The end. Does that make me a bad gay, to have a different opinion on how the business should go or how we should be treated or how we should be handled? […] The deeper issue is I say “Fuck Paul”. And fuck Paul! I stand by “Fuck Paul” only because of how I am loyal to Royce. And if you ask Joe Budden I always say that Royce should be in a different position. That’s a Paul issue.
