LL Cool J recently sat down on SiriusXM for a track-by-track breakdown of his new album, “The FORCE”.
During the show, LL shared insights into his creative process, including his collaboration with Eminem on the track “Murdergram Deux”, which serves as a sequel to his iconic 1990 track “Murdergram” from the “Mama Said Knock You Out” album.
Speaking to Roxanne Shanté and a live audience, LL described how the collaboration with Eminem came together:
This next song is a joint I did with Eminem, it’s called “Murdergram Deux”. I had a song on “Mama Said Knock You Out” called “Murdergram”, so I said, “You know what? We gonna do a song together.” When Q-Tip made the beat, I was sitting there, and he was playing that beat, and I was like, “Yo, Tip, this is crazy. Me and Em would be crazy on this”. He’s like, “Yeah, definitely big, bro”. So, I called Em, and I’m like, “Yo, I think I got a joint”. He’s like, “Send it to me”.
LL went on to explain how they recorded the song in Dr. Dre’s studio in LA:
We went together in the studio. The way the process was: I would write my rhyme, then I would lay it. He would come in, he would hear it, I would leave. He would write his rhyme. He would record. And we went back and forth in the booth without seeing each other record until we did the very last thing together.
LL’s album “The FORCE” marks his first full-length release in over a decade, featuring contributions from some of hip hop’s finest.
