In 2022, one of the most famous contemporary artists, Damien Hirst, reimagined 12 Eminem album covers for the Interscope 30th anniversary. Now, those designs have become part of American Dream, a new collaboration with Eminem on display in a London gallery.
HENI hosts an exhibition titled American Dream, which is attributed to both Daniel Hirst and Eminem. Hirst used his interpretation of Eminem’s cover art to create three new installations in his Medicine Cabinet series. The series began in the mid-1980s and its first sculptures were named after Sex Pistols’ songs.
The connection to Eminem’s music and life story in this recent instalment is both more direct and more metaphorical. Three new cabinets are called Re-Up, Riot and Addict. Each contains 12 albums from Eminem’s discography, with the actual vinyl records inside one-of-a-kind painted sleeves. The Addict cabinet features every drug mentioned in Eminem’s lyrics alongside the album covers.
Also, there is a collection of paintings, the vision for which Hirst and Eminem developed together, according to the gallery website.
The exhibition is open to the public from October 2 to 19, with free admission. Eminem fans have already started visiting the gallery to see the project.
All sculptures and original paintings based on Eminem’s covers are signed by both Damien Hirst and Marshall. And of course, they are also on sale. The gallery accepts applications from buyers. Even a print based on the original painting and signed by both artists and priced at $5,000, cannot be purchased directly, but is allocated to an applicant by the gallery. Smaller, unsigned prints, though, are available to the public for $450.
