Over the past week, several of Eminem’s songs crossed new streaming and sales thresholds, gaining more certifications and trending on several rankings.
Undying love
First of all, Eminem and Rihanna’s universally loved 2010 hit “Love The Way You Lie” has now surpassed 2.3 billion streams on Spotify. It is Em’s sixth most streamed song on the platform overall. Meanwhile, in terms of current daily streams, the track holds second place behind “Without Me”.
On July 22, “Love The Way You Lie” even re-entered the global Spotify chart at No. 199 with 1.19 million streams. It moved up to No.195 with 1.22 million streams the following day. Then it disappeared again, leaving “Without Me” as Eminem’s only song on the chart, at No. 188 and trending downward.
A tale of two albums
In the album category, two projects have just reached significant streaming milestones. The Eminem Show has crossed the 9.9 billion threshold. Gaining over 3 million new streams a day, it is closing in on the incredible 10 billion mark. It is set to become Marshall’s first project to reach that milestone. At this pace, it will take just under a month.
At the same time, Encore just reached 4.5 billion total streams. The album remains the sixth most streamed project in Marshall’s catalogue. However, in terms of daily streams, it ranks fourth, ahead of The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and Music To Be Murdered By.
The other side of the globe
Meanwhile, New Zealand continues to count Eminem’s sales without any special requests from the label. In July, Recorded Music NZ awarded 6x Platinum level certifications to three Eminem songs: one solo (“Mockingbird”) and two collaborations (Akon’s “Smack That” and Dr. Dre’s “Forget About Dre”).
Whatever some might think about the way Eminem’s music is ageing, numbers like this show that his catalogue remains in rotation in every corner of the world.
