Eminem released “The Slim Shady LP” on the 23rd of February, 1999

It’s been 27 years since Eminem dropped his major label debut album, “The Slim Shady LP”, and changed the world forever.

What Dr. Dre brought to every family living room was a monster of the most terrifying kind – the one that held a mirror to the face of the nation. And while it was difficult to look at, the nation was fascinated and charmed.

Rise to Fame

The debut album of a white rapper from Detroit, who seemingly came out of nowhere, went on to sell over 283,000 copies and debuted at No.2 on the Billboard chart. Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine numbers like this. However, Slim Shady truly captivated the audience. He showed his potential, and later, he kept his promise.

Eminem became the best-selling rapper in the world and one of the most successful artists across all genres, both domestically and internationally.

The highest certifications “The Slim Shady LP” has received so far are 8x Platinum in Australia, 4x Platinum in the UK, and 6x Platinum in the US. Who knows how many more levels it is going to be awarded at the next mass update?

Overshadowed by Later Projects

Meanwhile, with all that legendary status, “The Slim Shady LP” holds the lowest position among Em’s solo albums on the Spotify ranking. With 1.91 billion total streams, it receives around 500,000 new plays a day, almost half of which come from streaming “My Name Is”. There are only four songs with over 100 million streams out of 20 album tracks: “My Name Is”, “Role Model”, “Guilty Conscience”, “If I Had”, and “Just Don’t Give a Fuck”, which is honestly shocking. Maybe this album is waiting for a new generation to discover it.

But one way or another, this album is never too far from public attention; it is still charting, and forever embedded in the cultural fabric of the world.

Birthday Gift

Now, Eminem, who released an album about a million Slim Shady 25 years after releasing Slim’s big debut, is now dropping a special treat for fans: a 4 LP vinyl collection that will wrap these two stories together: “The Shady LP” and “The Death of Slim Shady”.
