A powerful skit on Juice WRLD’s album offers guidance in recovery.

In a new interview with DJ Whoo Kid, Brooklyn rapper Fivio Foreign opens up about the music that helps him stay grounded. When discussing his battle with addiction, Fivio highlights one unexpected track as a source of inspiration: “Eminem Speaks”, the powerful spoken-word interlude on Juice WRLD’s “Fighting Demons” album.

“I listen to that Eminem skit on Juice WRLD’s album a lot”, Fivio shares. “Because I’ve dealt with the same kind of situation that Juice dealt with and Eminem too. My drug addiction. When I’m going through my phase, trying to stop, change, and grow, I listen to that skit”.

A message worth replaying

Eminem Speaks” isn’t a rap verse, but a monologue. The audio comes from “How to Make Money Selling Drugs”, a 2012 documentary that features Eminem reflecting on his own descent into addiction and his eventual recovery.

His story is stark, honest, and stripped of glamour. It resonated deeply with Juice WRLD, who died of an overdose in 2019, and now, years later, it’s reaching Fivio and countless others navigating similar paths.

Linking generations through pain and growth

Eminem’s legacy clearly looms large over the next generation of artists. Juice WRLD regularly cited him as a key influence. In a 2019 freestyle for Tim Westwood, Juice rapped for over an hour using Eminem beats. A showcase of how much Slim Shady’s sound and storytelling shaped him.

Now, Fivio Foreign joins that lineage, using Em’s voice not for hype, but healing.

Bigger than music

The rest of the Whoo Kid interview touches on Fivio’s career highlights. He talks about working with Kanye West, navigating industry politics, and turning songs into cinematic experiences. But it’s the moment of vulnerability that lingers.

Sometimes, it’s not the biggest hit or the loudest hook that sticks, it’s a quiet voice telling you that change is possible. Moreover, this voice belongs to a master craftsman who went through hell himself.
