DreTL says meeting Eminem on Rhythm+Flow meant more than his Season 2 victory

Winning Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow Season 2 was a dream come true for DreTL, but meeting Eminem on the show’s Detroit episode hit him even harder.

Speaking on the Hip-Hop Wired podcast, the young rapper admitted that the moment Slim Shady showed him love sent him into “an out of body experience”.

“Honest to God truth, I had more of a reaction meeting Eminem than when they said I won. When I met him, bro, I’m embarrassed to even watch it ‘cause I’m screaming, I’m throwing my phone… I didn’t do it in front of him ‘cause I can hold my composure. But when he left, it was like unleashing 20 years of looking at that person like they were not real”.

Firmly, DreTL puts Eminem in the same category as Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie, and Nas: untouchable icons.

“Meeting him and then him showing me love, also him being my favourite rapper – you can’t really duplicate that”, DreTL said. “That first time, it’s like meeting Michael Jordan or Tom Brady ‘cause that’s how good he is in his field. Ask people, who’s your top five, nine times out of ten, you’re probably gonna say Eminem. Of all time, it’s him. So, it was different. It was different”.

The young Atlanta rapper looking up to Eminem for 20 years and shaping his craft? The Internet would tell you that it’s impossible because “nobody listens to Eminem anymore”. But life proves this statement wrong again and again.
