The local Detroit channel exposes a scammer who uses Marshall’s name to steal people’s identities.
According to the investigation conducted by Help Me Hank, a criminal poses as Eminem on social media going after personal information and even eBay gift cards.
The first case that caught the attention of local media was when the fraudster attempted to harvest personal details from Frederick Mclelland. He lured the man in with the promise to cover medical expenses for his injured son and soon started asking for his personal information.
Another case was reported from Washington, where a woman was approached by an impostor with a fake Marshall Mathers profile. He complimented her and promptly moved on to asking for a gift card. Probably, it tipped the woman off, and she realised that her vis-a-vis was unlikely to be a successful international superstar.
Eminem’s legal team is aware of the situation and is willing to cooperate with the investigation. Such a scam, however implausible and ridiculous it might be, harms people and stains the reputation of the artist known for his charitable work.
