The “Judas and the Black Messiah” soundtrack was released on the same day as the movie, and it features prominent names both as contributors and as the topic of conversation.
Rakim, Jay-Z, Black Thought, Nas, and Nipsey Hussle are among the artists who recorded their songs for the movie. However, Hit-Boy is the one who counts the most features on the soundtrack. This Grammy-nominated producer and rapper is credited on four songs from the album. One of them, “Broad City” is of particular interest to our audience.
Hit-Boy raps there:
You can’t sell like Eminem, you look like Obie Trice.
In the movie’s context that focused on the Black liberation movement and the Black Panther organisation, it sounds like a poignant comment on racial discrimination that many Black artists face in the industry.
There is a moment though that the difference between Eminem and Obie Trice is not just in their skin colour but, let be honest, their talent and dedication to the craft. But let’s not get into it too much and not distract from this movie’s central message.
