Hopsin spent last week streaming on his Instagram – and Eminem and his songs were a constant fixture in his monologues.
Some say that Hopsin sucks all fun out of the rapping with his angry and constricting flow but these people should listen closely to what he raps – and what he says about rap he loves.
So, during one of those streams, Hopsin was asked about his favourite verse of all time. It did not take long for him to answer, he spent more time queueing a track:
That’s easy. The first verse of “Role model”. That’s my favourite. Let me explain why it is my favourite verse. I’m a big fan of Eminem, of course, everybody knows, but the rawness!.. He is still raw. When rappers come out and they don’t give a fuck and they don’t have any structure… I Like that Eminem at this stage of his career was just a raw fucking rapper and you can tall he didn’t have like super magic sprinkles, crazy production, it was just like, “Yo, I’m just a guy who does a rap shit and I’ve just got bars. And a beat! It’s just a simple beat…
And he went bumping the tune and rapping along until he started explaining Em’s puns to the generation that might forget who Sonny Bono was and how he died in a skiing accident.
A couple of days later he was back on topic again introducing one of his favourite song of all time. This song happened to be “Forgot About Dre” wrote for Dre by Eminem. Hopsin not only said that he rapped the whole song from top to bottom. He finished with some sweet recollections:
I love that song. When that song came out that was better than fucking Michael Jackson “Thriller”. That was the hottest song in the fucking world. The hottest fucking rap song I’d ever heard in my entire life. And I had to learn every single fucking lyric of that song.
Watch him still killing it years later:
