50 Cent’s Diddy Documentary Wins an Emmy

50 Cent celebrates another win in his TV career. The Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning scores an Emmy after receiving three nominations.

Fifty himself did not attend the award ceremony, as he was away at an event in Canada and only heard about it over the phone. But he did not hesitate to boast about it online, rubbing his new achievement in the faces of his opponents.

On closer inspection, the documentary’s win came in a technical category. Sean Combs: The Reckoning was awarded for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program. In the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series category, it lost to Mr. Scorcese, and in the Outstanding Directing For A Documentary/Nonfiction Programme category the victory went to My Mom Jayne: A Film By Mariska Hargitay.

Yet still, every win counts for a series’ executive producer. Even if Fifty’s name was not on the winner card shown during the ceremony, Sean Combs: The Reckoning is a G-Unit Film & Television project. An Emmy-winning project.

Even if this award does not appear on Fifty’s personal Emmy page, where he already has one victory for his 2002 Super Bowl halftime performance as part of Dr. Dre’s-led show, it is still a win for a project he brought to television.

What many first saw as an internet prank, or another attempt to troll his old enemy, turned out to be a serious exploration of the music industry and the allegations against Sean Combs. The documentary gave a platform to people who accused Combs of abuse, attracted a large audience, even beating Stranger Things in ratings, and sparked a wider conversation about trust and power in show business.

Now it has an Emmy to its name.

So Fifty has every reason to celebrate the achievement as part of his TV career – even if the golden statuette itself belongs to the people whose work earned it.
