On April 20, Eminem, his friends, and his vast fanbase celebrate the decision that saved his life and his commitment to sobriety. Em does not show his new medallion every year, but in 2026, he posted a new photo.
Shared sentiment
The previous time Marshall shared a picture of his new AA token was in 2024, for the 16th anniversary. Every time Em posts on his social media to share a new milestone, it not only proves that he has not abandoned his resolution to stay sober but also evokes an emotional reaction from his followers.
Same this year. Of course, there were snarky voices and sarcastic commentaries on his X page, but Eminem did not make this post for those people. There are so many followers in the comment section who share their own stories of sobriety and commend Marshall for helping them choose the path of sobriety and stay on it. There is a guy who decided to go sober after Eminem’s show in Austin in 2024, there are people who say thank you to Marshall for inspiring them, and there are fans who celebrate Em’s achievement.
Voices from the camp
Alongside the public, friends, family, and fellow artists came to give Em a shout-out on this day.
His brother Nathan was one of the first to comment, “Proud of you, big bro”, on Em’s Instagram account. Big Sean joined, adding “Yessir! Keep it up 🐐”. Questlove paired his praise with encouragement: “Awesome. Keep Goin 👏🏾”. Kuniva from D12 was just proud: “That’s my guy!🙌🏾🙌🏾💪🏾”. Fredwreck, Flavor Flav, and Lefty Gunplay all joined the celebratory crowd. The atmosphere in the comment is warm and supportive, except for some dissenting voices and that tone deaf joke that Obie Trice made: “Congrats, you’ll live 20mins longer😂😂😂 good shit sir🫡”
A special one
However, there was a very special comment that day. In a photo Eminem shared, he was wearing a t-shirt with the cover art of D-Nice’s 1991 album “To tha Rescue”. The same Eminem mentioned on his “Tone Deaf” track from Music to Be Murdered By: Side B:
ever sincе D-Nice “To tha Rescue”
Feel a frеsh crew, been a lab rat
From a test tube, I’m goin’ in like the red roof
In fact, these t-shirts are part of Marshall’s continuing educational campaign: he brings names of artists from the golden era of hip hop to the attention of a younger generation. And you can notice that for some commentators, that name was new, so somebody just went to listen to “To tha Rescue” for the first time in their life. Meanwhile, there was a person who also paid close attention to Em’s attire in this photo – D-Nice himself. The pioneering hip hop MC and producer came to the celebration but also acknowledged the nod Marshall gave him: “Congrats, my man! BTW, Nice t-shirt!”
